Vocational Education & Training

Vocational Education and Training (VET) provides you with skills and knowledge to perform effectively in the workplace. A VET qualification prepares you for, or in some instances qualifies you to do, a specific job. Certificate courses are competency based. Successful completion of a certificate course will allow a student to achieve a national training qualification.

Completing a VET qualification while at school allows students to maximise their Year 11 and 12 achievement and provide support for students to transition with confidence to post school options. Logical pathways for students who undertake these programs include full-time enrolment in higher level TAFE course, Apprenticeships/Traineeships, employment and in some cases alternative entry pathways to university.

VET contributes significantly towards a student’s Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE).

School Based Traineeships / Apprenticeships (SBT/SBA)

A school-based apprenticeship or traineeship is an employment-based learning pathway, which combines off the job training and on the job training. SBAT students can enter into an employment arrangement directly with an employer, or through a group training organisation.

A student completing a SBT generally attends one paid day of work per week and school the remaining four days, over a period of 12-18 months.
